Description
Bourbon & Branch offers a nostalgic journey back to the 1920s prohibition era, housed in an actual speakeasy that operated illegally from 1921 to 1933. Originally known as “The Ipswitch – A Beverage Parlor,” it transitioned into “JJ Russell’s Cigar Shop” to discreetly serve alcohol. Maintaining the ambiance of a speakeasy, patrons are expected to follow house rules to preserve the clandestine atmosphere. The term “speakeasy” predates Prohibition and was used by an Irish woman in Pittsburgh in the 1880s to discreetly sell liquor. Bourbon & Branch’s craft cocktail lounge near Union Square offers a secretive and exclusive experience reminiscent of the roaring ’20s.
