Description
Christopher Park, located in front of the legendary Stonewall Inn where the gay liberation movement began, is steeped in LGBT history. Recognized for its significance, the park was added to the New York State Registry of Historic Places in 1999. To commemorate the events that unfolded there, artist George Segal was commissioned to create a white sculpture depicting gay couples lounging in the park, a poignant reminder of its historic importance.
