Description
Originally a longshoreman’s pub, The Eagle transitioned into a leather/levi bar in 1970, known as The Eagle’s Nest. Despite challenges, it became a hub for the leather community. With the rise of the leather/levi ideal globally, The Eagle inspired similar bars. Facing ups and downs, it closed in 2000 due to gentrification. Reopening in 2001 at 554 W 28th Street, it retained its dark, sleazy vibe. The current building, a former horse stable, echoes its history. The Eagle NYC’s enduring popularity is evident, with ongoing community service and participation in events like IML. The Eagle has truly landed.
