El Rio

Established in 1978 as a Brazilian Leather Gay Bar, El Rio serves the Mission District and beyond. Originally led by Malcolm and Robert, The Crew now steers this LGBTQ+ owned and operated space. A queer-run community hub, event venue, and Mission mainstay, El Rio embraces diversity. Grateful for patrons and community support, we are committed to social change, investing in local arts, and aiding underserved communities through our space for mutual aid efforts and direct resource provision. A welcoming haven for all good people, El Rio remains a cherished LGBTQ+ establishment.
