Description
Charles I’s failed mission to Spain in 1625, seeking a marriage treaty, led to the naming of the Enfanta de Castile pub in London. Renamed Elephant and Castle, it stood for over 300 years until destroyed by a German V2 rocket in 1942. Today, the site is a busy traffic circle and transportation hub. Elephant & Castle, with its iconic ampersand, expanded to New York in 1973 and Dublin in 1989. The Greenwich Village location is a favorite brunch spot, perfect for meeting old friends over an omelet.
