Opened on May 10th, 1996, Gotham Comedy Club, founded by Chris Mazzilli and Mike Reisman, quickly became a comedy hotspot. Over the years, it has launched the careers of stars like Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer. Owned by Chris and Steven Mazzilli since 2005, the club hosted iconic performances, including those by Jerry Seinfeld, Gaffigan, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Trevor Noah. Its rich history includes filming locations for Seinfeld’s “Comedian” and Gaffigan’s series “The Jim Gaffigan Show.” Additionally, Gotham ventured into television production, hosting shows like “Last Comic Standing” and “Gotham Comedy Live.” In 2019, it pioneered virtual reality comedy with “Live in Gotham,” filmed in partnership with Next VR and Oculus. The club even transformed into “The Copacabana” for Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” in 2019, featuring Robert De Niro and other stars.
